PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Karachi "DAY 4"

Maria.B at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Karachi
Day 4 was buzzing with fashion, music and high drama! The evening’s opening show was staged by Maria B., whose Fashion Week womenswear Prêt a Porter collection, “Tribal Militants” featured a diversity of fabrics such as pure cottons, khaddars, chiffons, denim, jute and silk along with knits. With an emphasis on prints, hints of culture, tribal bohemia and the sombre goth of military precision, a western silhouette was showcased. The collection drew inspiration from two of the constant forces at play in Pakistan, thus the tongue-in-cheek title of the collection, and hence was especially inspired by the Pakistani Army as they saved millions of their countrymen in the rural areas during the floods.

TEEJAYS at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Karachi
‘TEEJAYS’ womenswear and menswear collection for Fashion Week “TEEJAYS EVOLUTION”, was inspired by the forty years of fashion, from 1970 to 2010, at TEEJAYS - from the bohemian 70s, to the creation of military awami at TEEJAYS in the 80s and 90s and then into the 2000s where vintage was brought in with a twist, and recently, with the space age. The fabric used was mainly cotton with a hint of leather used as lowers and trimmings. Beginning with the 70s theme, the show was more flowy at the start leading into a structured look with details and finally, ending with a defined structure silhouette.

PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Karachi "DAY 3"

Ali Xeeshan at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Karachi
The Phoenix collection by Ali Xeeshan focuses on the Kohli tribe of Sindh. The floods devastated what was once a flourishing area and the collection was a tribute to them. Ali Xeeshan shows great attention to detail and innovative techniques: white paint was used on some pieces giving a beaded embossed look and was added to the finished outfit and sheets of pure gota were appliquéd onto wide leg trousers! Billowing shirts with structured collars illustrated an improvement on the trend of flared fabric. A cropped jacket with Rajasthani ivory bangle inspired sleeves stood out for its inventiveness.

Kamair Rokni Collection at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Karachi
The House of Kamiar Rokni’s womenswear Prêt-à-porter Spring/Summer 2011 collection entitled “Folkistan”. Inspired by Pakistan’s various folk crafts and cultural influences, “Folkistan” painted a portrait of women all over Pakistan, celebrating rural motifs and crafts with a contemporary twist. The fabrics used were all local with traditional checks and stripes in cotton, khaadi and sussi and were embellished in thread work inspired by folk appliqués of regional materials. Long dresses were accompanied by shift dresses and a diversity of pants inspired by cargo and harem pants.
