oh dear: tia mowry + jennifer hudson

okay, so her look isn't a total catastrophe but this look falls quite flat and there's something not quite right about it. maybe it's the attempt at dressing denim up that's unsuccessful or it's the blahness of it all that's a little unnerving. or maybe it's a bit of both. note to tia: if you're going to do denim on the red carpet, there are many, many ways to go about it. this isn't one of them. if you're keeping it simple, keep it simple like so:

or do a complete do-over. throw in a blinged out vest, some skinny jeans, a blouse, pumps, a clutch purse, SOMETHING. lose the evening purse, the evening shoes, the pretty hair and keep things funky and fresh, thankyaverymuch.

moving on...

not sure what jennifer hudson was thinking showing up looking like that. horrid. we've seen her look ridiculously hot and we know she has it in her, so to see her look so awful is really very sad. her maxi dress is hugely unflattering (WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?! can somebody donate a a free PROPER bra?) paired with thong sandals...ON THE RED CARPET? SERIOUSLY? nuh-uh. her accessories look cheap...gosh, we can't go on. this is too painful. of all the maxi dresses and sandals there are this world...

oh dear: jodphurs

we were silently hoping and praying they'd go away but it looks like we're going to have to keep our prayer and meditations beads handy so we don't fall to pieces at every sighting. what are we fussing about this time, you ask? JODPHURS. granted, some earlier sightings weren't too bad, like these two from balenciaga. we're open to being gently talked into wearing them even:

[source: google]

it's the ones that look like they have sagging air bags and/puffer fish attached to them that are quite frightening.

unfortunately (and this really is very unfortunate), we sighted jodphurs again in versace's resort '09 collection and they have yet to invent emoticons for what we're feeling:

[source: style.com]

excuse us while we go into shock.

while we're on the topic, harem pants invoke similar emotions in us:

we remain baffled by the people who leave their houses dressed in these things, expecting to be taken seriously.

dear gods of fashion,

make all these bad, bad things go away.

thanks,

discuss: to pantyhose or not to pantyhose?

a dear friend of teamliquorice brought this picture to our attention earlier today:

exhibit A

source: niyi tabiti

she was in hysterics over the lady's pantyhose (never mind her entire outfit!) because apparently, pantyhose and nigeria simply don't mix! but can they?

exhibit B

source: purefoto

we lumped this look with our least favorites from the made mag event here for a reason. it's too prom, too pink, too...sigh...need we go on? and the pantyhose!!! not. cool.

****
we totally see why our friend wasn't having it (re: exhibit A) but let's play devil's advocate here for a sec. we're going to take a step back and look at this situation objectively. okay, let's go! pantyhose serves two main purposes:

a. it keeps your legs warm during the winter months

and/or

b. conceals spots, blemishes, etc.

granted, it's rather hot in lagos so the idea isn't to wear pantyhose to the beach or outdoor events. indoor events often have air conditioning so you can get away with wearing pantyhose if you'd like some extra coverage. also, since pantyhose comes in a variety of shades and tones, PLEASE wear something that suits your complexion. or appear in public at your own risk.

need help? this might come in handy:

oh dear: the shoes

subject: solange knowles

(borrowed from: theybf.com)

dear solange,

you were doing pretty well with this outfit...until we saw your shoes. how do we put this lightly? the shoes don't work for this look, solange. another outfit maybe. not this one. there are ways to wear a variety of patterns and still make an outfit work. this one isn't working, solange. it just isn't. here's what we would've done differently:

*sandals instead, maybe?

these could work. they're spunky, very much in season, and the brown and blue complement each other really nicely. get them here.

don't listen to your stylist anymore, S. can we call you that? speaking of calling, call US instead, S.

love,

teamliquorice

haha! that was FUN :) incidentally, we spotted a similar skirt at forever21 earlier this week so if you're looking to recreate this look, help is on the way!

keep it simple with black pumps (as seen above) or get some bright, cheery pumps. or dress the skirt down with a plain tee and some thong or gladiator sandals. we could go on :)

tops - asos
skirt - forever21
shoes - bakers

(quick tip - tuck the top in so the ruffles are more pronounced.)

how would you have done it differently?
