Inspired: Of Eric Raisina and YSL

YSL, Eric Raisina-style. 

Fashion is usually a re-interpretation of something that exists; a re-imagining that goes around in circles and cycles, drawing inspiration from an original and making it something new. At Africa Fashion Week in Dublin a few weeks ago, several of Eric Raisina's dresses took inspiration from Yves Saint Laurent's iconic Mondrian dress, which was itself inspired by the composition of some of Piet Mondrian's paintings:

Raisina's pieces brought YSL's invention to life, presenting it with layers of texture, detail and in a variety of lengths and styles. Following a similar color scheme to the late great Yves Saint Laurent, Raisina elevated the iconic piece, giving it life, movement and energy. A classic is a classic, but Raisina has brought something to the table that has stolen our hearts.

Thanks to ifashion, we now have the full list of designers showing at ARISE L'Afrique-A-Porter this Friday. We've brought you press releases from Tiffany Amber [Nigeria], Jewel by Lisa [Nigeria], and MOMO [Nigeria], and in this post, we added Kluk CGDT [South Africa], Lunar [South Africa] and Clive Rundle [South Africa] to the list. ifashion.com tells us that the following designers will also be making appearances:

David Tlale [South Africa; our guess was right!]

Eyola [Nigeria]

Eric Raisina [Madagascar] and

Christie Brown [Ghana]

So there you have it! 10 designers, 5 pieces each and 50 looks we can't wait to see! Which designer's work are you most looking forward to seeing?

style notes: eric raisina 2010

eric raisina's 12-piece collection had many delicious spring-worthy moments, from his use of bright punches of color to his light and airy fabric choices. here's what stood out to us:

a. understated color, but still colorful nonetheless...perfect for the glamorous life of the party.

b. a hint of the always classic black - surefire go-to pieces in those "nothing to wear" moments.

c. easily our favorite pieces! a gorgeous kaleidoscope of reds, pinks, and oranges each with its own unique detail...be it leopard print or fringe-work. 

d. these pieces didn't fit neatly into any of our categories, but here they are anyway! from the halter belted dress to the knit mini, these pieces may be just what your need on your next resort getaway.

mr. raisina's collection is a commendable celebration of color and fluidity and his pieces are the perfect choices for the lady who gets ready in record time.
